Flooding reported in Harwood and Tronson areas
Saturday 14:00 Update: City crews report that water has receded in the Heron Glen subdivision. City of Vernon will continue to monitor throughout the weekend.
Saturday 11:25 Update: The City has delivered sand and sandbags to Heron Glen (1800 block of 53 Avenue).
Saturday 11:15: Flooding has been reported near the Heron Glen strata on the 1800 block of 53 Avenue. Sand and sandbags are available at City Operations (1900 48 Avenue) at the Pleasant Valley Road entrance and at the corner of Okanagan Landing Road and Okanagan Avenue.
The west end of Beachcomber Bay Road off Tronson Road has been closed due to flooding. Access is still available on the east side of Beachcomber Bay Road.
Friday 22:10: The City reminds residents that living in a home with sewer backup can be unsafe, and recommends leaving the home. In the event of a sewer backup, please immediately contact your insurance company.
Friday 21:00 Flooding has been reported near multi-family residents between the 5000 and 5200 blocks from 18 Street to 19 Street, and near the 8000 block of Tronson Road.
Some City crews are on site providing sandbagging assistance to residents. Homeowners in areas at risk of flooding are advised that they are responsible for acquiring sandbagging materials from the following locations:
Vernon City Operations (outside main gate on Pleasant Valley Road)
Corner of Okanagan Avenue and Okanagan Landing Road
Vernon Fire Hall (3401 30 Street)
Residents are reminded to stay away from all creeks and streams and moving water during heavy rains.
