Swim Zone Extension
Lake Country Council has approved a staff report to ask the provincial government for permission to extend the swim-only zone at the Wood Lake Beach in Oyama.
Mayor James Baker says they need to make it safer for swimmers.
“‘It’s necessary for us to be able to deal with issues such as a conflict, the swimming and boating.”
The Licence of Occupation would allow the District to extend the no boating zone 200 metres into the lake from the high water mark.
The mayor says there have been some complaints.
“We do hear from people who want to swim there that sometimes boats swing in a fairly close to where they want to swim.”
If the District gets approval, the area will be marked.
“We want the ability to rope off some areas, put the buoys out that will indicate where boats can travel and swimmers can swim.”
It could take at least six weeks for the government to deal with the request.
