Sandbags For Lumby Residents Preparing For Flooding

The water watch continues in Lumby.

Superintendent of Operations Dave Manson says the Village is making sand and sandbags available for residents in need.

” Correct, we have two bag locations set up, one across from the Lumby Curling Club and the other location is at the Faulkner Avenue Salmon Trail.”

He says people can take whatever is required as long as it’s to protect their own property.

” The sand is provided beside the bags, so people have to make their own bags, recommend to bring a shovel or a scooping device.

The sand and bags are placed in a wide open area to get access very easily.”

There are currently about two thousand bags for people to fill.

Dave Manson says there are pre-made sandbags from past years that will be re-purposed to be ready to use for village infrastructure in case of emergency.

” They’ve seen their day in the sunshine and we’re looking at getting in wildfire crews to prepare new bags for immediate deployment in case of emergency. ”

There is already some water on the Salmon Trail at Faulkner Avenue.

“We’ve shut that currently and it’s close to the road on the south side of the Shuswap Bridge so we’re monitoring the creeks very heavily.”

Persons living or working near creeks and streams should be aware that stream water levels may rise quickly and should exercise caution.
