Over $1 Million More for Rail Trail

Fundraising for the Okanagan Rail Trail has gone over the 4 million dollar mark.

The total was helped by 770-thousand dollars from Bike BC, and 470-thousand from the Canada 150 fund.

Trail Ambassador Brad Clements says the funding allows them to get ready for stage 3 of their plan.

“There’s a lot of stuff that’s underway, and what these last two grants allow the Inter-Jurisdictional team to do is pretty much schedule stage three, which is construction of test sections in each community and then to begin to install intersection control devices, and then just leaving the final stage four for funding.”

The two grants are split between three communities along the trail.

“The Bike BC money focuses in Kelowna and the Canada 150 Rural Dividend focuses in Lake Country and Coldstream, so its been an unbelievable couple of weeks.”

Clements says they expect the remaining 3.5 million dollars for the 49 kilometre trail to come from individual donations.
