Paramedics Surpass Target for Signatures

Local paramedics have surpassed their goal of getting 4750 signatures on their initiative petition to give paramedics the same collective bargaining rights as firefighters and policemen.

They had until April 11th to get that total, but this past weekend they reached 5,025 in Vernon-Monashee as local spokesman Dean Perry explains.

“There’s been a lot of people coming up and saying yes we wanted to sign, we were hoping we’d find you guys somewhere and public support has been just phenomenal. We’d like to thank everybody who signed and thank everyone who support us.”

Perry says they still want to get as many as they can before the April 11th deadline.

“We’re not stopping yet though. We need a few more signatures just for a cushion to cover any signatures that Elections BC might reject.”

Perry says they will still keep collecting signatures as a result, plus they also will help their colleagues to the south.

“We’re going to try and help the Kelowna people a little bit of a hand. They have three electoral districts there to cover off. They aren’t quite there yet, so we’ll do our best to help shore them up and get as many electoral votes as we can.”

Paramedics also have surpassed their goal for the Shuswap district getting 4382 there…nearly 300 more than the required 4,091.
