Residents are being encouraged to get outside and explore local green space this weekend as the Regional District of Central Okanagan marks BC Trails Day on Saturday, June 6.

The annual province-wide event highlights the importance of trails in supporting recreation, health, and connection to nature.

In the Central Okanagan, RDCO Parks maintains more than 2,100 hectares of protected parkland and over 80 kilometres of designated trails across 30 regional parks.

Those spaces include lakeside routes such as Kalamoir Regional Park and forested trail systems like KLO Creek Regional Park, offering a range of outdoor experiences across the region.

“This year’s BC Trails Day is the perfect opportunity for people of all ages to reconnect with our incredible trail network,” said Jill Hamilton, supervisor of community relations and visitor services. “Whether it’s a short nature walk, a family outing or a longer hike, our parks offer something for everyone.”

To mark the day, RDCO is encouraging residents to explore a local trail, practice responsible trail use, and take part in guided hikes led by park staff.

The guide is available online at rdco.com/parkprograms. More information about regional parks and trails can be found at rdco.com/parks.
