Enderby Fire Hall Extension on Back Burn

Enderby Fire Hall Extension on Back Burner

Aug 28, 2018 | 5:13 PM

A plan to extend Enderby’s fire hall is now on the back burner.

Cost has forced the Enderby Fire Rescue Society to change its fundraising plans from a hall extension to life-saving equipment.

“New vehicles are made using harder and stronger metals that are more difficult to cut with our existing Jaws of Life equipment, which is twenty-five years old,” says society president Craig Bell.

About $35,000 has been raised so far with the cost of the new equipment expected to total $100,000.

The society switched fundraising gears when they discovered the hall extension would cost double what had been estimated.

A builder handed in a quote of approximately $700,000, Bell says.

He says an extension or new hall will be needed within ten years and will have to become part of the city’s long-term plan.
