Finally...a Bit of Breathing Room

Finally…a Bit of Breathing Room

Aug 26, 2018 | 7:28 AM

Look…is that a patch of blue in a sea of smoke…yes it is.

It’s seems like forever, but finally a switch in weather and positive winds, has helped drop the air quality index to more live-able standards in the South, Central and North Okanagan.

This is due to a North Westerly flow according to Environment Canada…however the smoke has to go somewhere.

Communities downwind of wildfires will continue to experience periods of elevated concentrations of fine particulate matter and poor air quality through the weekend.

However increased dispersion from winds aloft combined with showers over the coming days will lead to incremental improvement for some regions.

The South, Central and North Okanagan regions are forecasting an index of 5 on Sunday, 4 overnight and 4 Monday

During a wildfire, smoke conditions can change quickly over short distances and can vary considerably hour-by-hour.

Wildfire smoke is a natural part of our environment but it is important to be mindful that exposure to smoke may affect your health.
