Shopping Cart Ban Under Review

Vernon’s proposed bylaw banning shopping carts on public land throughout the city, could be doomed.

The measure has faced stiff public opposition, and the BC Civil Liberties Association calls it ridiculous, irrational, and a violation of the Charter of Rights.

Mayor Akbal Mund says city staff and lawyers will be providing more information to council at their next meeting Sept. 4th.

“We’ll see what happens. Legal counsel with the city will provide us with the information on how we can proceed with the bylaw, and if we can proceed with the bylaw,” Mund tells Beach Radio News.
