New Tactic Considered For Local Wildfires

Burn operations are being considered for two of the larger wildfires in the North Okanagan.

BC Wildfire Service spokesperson Shelley Zupp said the tactic may be used at both Harris Creek and Mabel Creek fires this week, depending on conditions.

“There are 35 firefighters on site today,” Zupp said of the Harris Creek wildfire. “The crews are blacklining the strategic areas and, if conditions are deemed ideal, burn operations will take place later in the week in order to tie into the north flank.”

The Harris Creek wildfire stands at 511 hectares in size.
