A local businesswoman has decided to run for Vernon Council in October.

Teresa Durning says the people of Vernon deserve honest diligent representation and vows to bring a strong voice to council.

“Arriving in Vernon a decade ago I knew immediately this was where I was meant to be. From that first day Vernon has been my home. Not a day goes past I don’t take a moment to be still and appreciate the beauty of my city, the people the culture the amazing outdoor adventures and
especially the hard work done by so many to make our fabulous city what it is today.”

She says her goals are to improve safety for local residents and businesses, advocate for affordable housing, ensure responsible fiscal and infrastructure management and advocate for Environmental initiatives and Emergency Preparedness.

Durning moved to Vernon in 2007 to become manager of the Visitor Centre, before starting her own company, Durning Directions & Service, Ltd., and continued managing Visitor Services for Tourism Vernon as a contractor.

She was recently nominated Community Leader of the Year.

Durning says she plans to host weekly coffee talk meetings to meet and find out what people’s concerns are moving forward for the City of Vernon.
