Enderby Wildfire Plan In Motion

Enderby Wildfire Plan In Motion

Aug 20, 2018 | 6:53 AM

Enderby Council has approved an 8600 dollar contract to Forsite Consultants for the planning process for the city’s Fire Smart Program.

Forsite recently completed the update to Enderby’s Community Wildfire Plan.

Mayor Greg McCune says some initiatives are as simple as clearing brush along roadsides and having property owners do similar work.

“Even for the private owner, you know, you’ve knocked down a bunch of trees and the wind has come and done a bunch of damage. You know, try to get in there and get that cleaned up. Clean up some of the needles and some of the underbrush to maybe slow a fire, that type of thing.”

McCune says the western side of the community is the main focus.

“To the west is where the majority of our forested areas are and up Canyon Road is some pretty deep woods and brush and whatever.

McCune notes eastern side is protected somewhat by the river with well irrigated agricultural land to the north and south.

Enderby is working jointly with the Splatsin on fire protection and prevention.
