Enderby Council has referred a bus stop issue back to BC Transit.

The plan was to put a new stop on Mill Avenue, just west of George Street and eliminate 2 stops on Mill and Maud.

Mayor Greg McCune says while it seemed simple on paper, in reality it doesn’t work with Mill Street as a major access to the highway with a traffic light.

” Basically, everybody from the western side of the town goes to Mill Street light. Anybody in the northeast side of town goes to the Mill Street light and then everyone else pretty much goes to the Hubert light if you have to cross the highway or again access the highway.”

The plan for the bus stop has created more concern among residents than council discussions on the city’s budget and cannabis regulations.

Dozens of people filled out a questionnaire, with several feeling it was too far away from a residential area and would create too much congestion.

“For the user, It’s a great spot. For everybody around it, it’s not that great of a spot. That’s kind of the catch 22 , but we do have some other roads. I think we’re going to try to steer them towards Russel Street which is kind of between the two lights.”

Mayor McCune says it’s not as busy a road and there is parking across the street.
