City To End RCMP Cost “Subsidy”
The City of Vernon has set a date to end what it says is years of subsidizing the RCMP support costs of other local communities.
Mayor Akbal Mund says they will stop covering those fees as of September 4th for communities like Armstrong, Enderby and Spallumcheen.
“What we’re trying to do is protect the Vernon taxpayer, because that’s what we get elected for. So we will protect the Vernon taxpayer, and if we move forward with this, we’re going to save some money,” Mund told Beach Radio News
The savings will be about 300-thousand dollars a year.
