Complex Campaign Ready To Go

The Regional District of North Okanagan is getting set to roll-out a public education campaign for this fall’s cultural complex referendum.

Voters will decide Oct. 20 if 25 million dollars will be borrowed for a 40 million dollar new facility on the former Coldstream Hotel site in Vernon.

Tannis Nelson, Community Services Manager with RDNO, says the proposal is in the concept stage, so there is no final design.

“What people are going to see is the opportunities the facility could provide for local economic benefit, and they will see some images that will help them understand what it could potentially look like in the location that was selected.”

Nelson says RDNO will have information displays at the Village Green Centre, starting Sept.1, with others on Oct. 6 and 13, along with at the Farmer’s Markets and other special events.

At Thursday’s Greater Vernon Advisory Committee meeting,  director Akbal Mund says not everyone visits the mall, and he suggested other sites like Walmart and the Superstore should also be used for the displays, to reach as many people as possible.

Mund also recommended an information display at the opening event for the new Kal Tire Place North Sept. 7-9.

“There will be a lot of people at those three events,” said Mund.
