Update: Amalgamation Idea Fails To Get Support

A Spallumcheen councillor says he will continue to gauge the interest in an idea to amalgamate Armstrong and Spallumcheen.

Ed Hanoski was looking to get the issue on the ballot for this fall’s elections, but failed to get a seconder to his motion after a debate involving the four council members present at Spall council Tuesday.

“They felt that it was, you know, nobody in the community was asking them, so they said they didn’t want to bring something up that the people weren’t asking about. Yet I got a call this morning from a fellow who said ‘I think that should be entertained,’ and he’s a person who lives in Armstrong,” Hanoski tells Beach radio News.

Hanoski feels amalgamation makes sense, saying the communities are inter-related in so many areas, and that will only increase as time goes on as Armstrong needs water and land.
