Coldstream Council Confirms Pay Raise

Jul 24, 2018 | 11:22 AM

Coldstream Council gave final approval Monday night to raises for the next Mayor and councillors.

It’s to make up for the federal government’s decision to tax the one-third of their remuneration that has been previously tax free.

The raises will take effect January 1st, 2019.

The Mayor’s salary will be 34 thousand dollars annually, while councillors will get 15 thousand.

Annual increases will be based on the Consumer Price Index.

Each member of Council will also be paid $131.68 for prescribed meetings.

The District will pay for members who are assigned to attend Regional District of North Okanagan  meetings as well as meetings of the Okanagan Regional Library and  any other meeting authorized by resolution of Council.

When a Councillor is appointed as Acting Mayor, a payment equivalent to one meeting pay shall form part of that Councillor’s remuneration.
