Council To Address Task Force Ideas

Council To Address Task Force Ideas

Jul 23, 2018 | 7:28 AM

Vernon council will be addressing the recommendations made by the Activate Safety Task Force at today’s meeting.

The ad hoc group made 46 suggestions two weeks ago on how to improve the impact of the street entrenched population and other factors on the business community.

Mayor Akbal Mund says city staff has worked hard to provide responses to all of the recommendations.

“There definitely will be some costs involved. There already has been costs involved: the staff time that was put into this. I know no one thinks of that, but that means other projects don’t get looked after.”

Mund says council will go through the ideas one by one at this afternoon’s meeting.

“I think staff has done a pretty good job getting back to us on all of them, which is quite amazing in itself. We’ll go through them individually and I’m sure we’ll have discussions on some. I’m sure some will be moved forward ASAP.”

The recommendations focus on eight areas of concern like enforcement, drug use and prevention, and improperly discarded needles.
