No Roadside Camping For Lumby Mayor This Summer

Jul 23, 2018 | 7:16 AM

Lumby Mayor Kevin Acton likely won’t be camping out at the roadside this year.

For the past 5 years Acton has spent a summer weekend camped at the entrance to the village to raise money for the Whitevalley Community Resource Centre’s Legacy Fund

But the Centre has discontinued the legacy campaign.

“I think we’re going to invest some time in another way this year. We’re not sure how yet. We’re going to look at maybe some other way that the Mayor can benefit or help support them that might be a little bit more direct benefit to the WCRC.”

That may be in ther form of a trip to Victoria to lobby for help.

“This group really needs core funding. That’s where the legacy camp out came from in the first place. They’re about 30 thousand dollars short in core funding. So, I’m hoping to approach  the ministry.”

Acton says it’s a matter of putting together a case to present that shows the value for money.

He jokes though he might get some attention if he camps out on the lawn of the legislation.

Acton has raised thousands of dollars for the centre which helps the less fortunate in Lumby.
