Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Weighs in on Fire Situation

After a welcomed two days of relief from wildfires raging in the Southern Interior, officials now say the foretasted warm temperatures and gusting winds could very well be a concern again.

Jason Luciw with the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre hopes the weather the past couple of days will continue, but checking the forecast indicates a return to hot and windy conditions.

He attributes the lower temperature combined with cloud cover and light winds helped contain the growth of the Mount Eneas fire to around 1,374 hectares. In addition it helped to clear out much of the smoke seen in the area for the past couple of days.

Luciw emphasizes temperatures in the 30s and winds gusting over 40 kilometres per hour expected for as early as Monday afternoon, will not help the fire situation at all. .
