Update: Dee Lake Fire ‘Being Held’

The Dee Lake Road wildfire, which started Monday south of Vernon, is now listed as being held.

“It’s putting up minimal smoke now and there was no growth overnight, so the fire is now classified as being held. That means we aren’t expecting the fire to grow beyond its current perimeter,” says Nicole Bonnett from the Wildfire Service.

The fire remains at 7 hectares, with 20 personnel and two pieces of heavy equipment on the site.

Update: 12:10 pm July 17

The Dee Lake Road wildfire, south of Vernon, is still estimated at seven hectares in size.

“At this point, machine guards have already been placed around 70% of the fire in order to contain it. Structures are still not threatened at this time,” states a posting on social media by the Service.

There are 26 personnel and two helicopters on site.

The fire was first reported Monday afternoon.

Smoke from the fire is responsible for the hazy conditions in the area.

The cause is under investigation.

Update: 8:30 pm:

The BC Wildfire Service says the Dee Lake Road wildfire is now 7 hectares in size.

No structures are threatened.

Twenty-eight personnel along with helicopters and air tankers have been working on the active fire located southeast of Vernon in the Aberdeen Plateau area.

There is no word what caused it.

Marla Catherall from the Wildfire Service says the wildfire was previously reported as adjacent to King Edward Lake, but is more accurately located in the Dee Lake area.

Update: 5:30pm

The BC Wildfire Service says a fire near King Edward Lake southeast of Vernon is three hectares in size.

“The Wildfire Service is responding with 26 personnel, two helicopters and air tankers,” says information officer Marla Catherall.

Catherall say no structures are threatened, but it is highly visible.

4:15 pm

The BC Wildfire Service is actioning a new fire east of Vernon.

It’s in the area of King Edward Lake, in the Aberdeen Plateau, and the smoke can be seen in areas of Coldstream and Lake Country.

Jody Lucius from the Wildfire Service says its very early on, but they are working to get more information on it.

She says crews and air tankers are responding to it.

Meantime, in Vernon, Fire Rescue was called to a grass-brush fire on Mission Road by the Allan Brooks Nature Centre at around 4:25 pm, but nothing was found.
