Vernon’s Wonder Woman…Eying World #1 Ranking
Vernon’s Wonder Woman has just unknowingly set a new world triathlon record.
By completing the Deca Ultra Triathlon in Leon Mexico, Shanda Hill became the first female in the history of the sport and in the world to complete two continuous Decas in one year.
The first was in Switzerland on August 15th. where she finished second among female competitors.
She had a significant personal best in this past Deca, namely the swim element.
For the 38 K she took two and a half hours off her Switzerland swim time.
Hill is not a big fan of the swim element, so she was very happy with that result crediting it to the warmer water temperature so “she could just swim“.
Now finished she can now sit back and contemplate the scope of what exactly has happened this year.
With the two Decas and the triple, she calculates she has swam 90 kilometers, rode 4100 km’s on the bike and ran over 1000 kilometers in the last two and a half months.
Because of the timing from one race to the other, Shanda competed without a crew, but tells us that it`s not like you don`t have a crew when there`s other racers there, because they all help each other…“kinda like a family“
With this latest win, it puts her in contention for the number one position in the world out of 26 females.
So now what?
Shanda told us there`s a Double Deca race in Monterrey, Mexico in 2019. She`s always wanted to do it, just for the challenge but the pollution in Leon affected so many of her fellow competitors.
As tempting as it is, she will seriously have to look at the location, as Monterrey, Mexico, has worse pollution than Leon and she`s not about to risk her health for any race…no matter how much it would mean for her to complete it.
She is hoping that the organizing committee responsible for races of this nature will consider a healthier location and if that happens…she`s there.
And we know that if she`s there…she`ll nail it.
