Vernon Triathlete Among The Leaders In Mexican Race

Oct 19, 2017 | 9:16 AM

Vernon ultra athlete Shanda Hill is still in the mix at the Deca Ultra Triathlon in Leon, Mexico.

She’s now a little more than half way through the 1800 kilometre bike ride and is in 6th place overall.

The event started with a 38 kilometre swim.

She suffered a bit of heat stroke yesterday but got some sleep and hydrated and hit the bike for a night ride.

Shanda says the heat and elevation is affecting several of the participants.

The temperature has been in the high 20’s and the elevation is about level with Silver Star.

Once the bicycle portion of the event is done, a  422 kilometre run is next.
