Over 17,000 Take In IPE Opening Day

Officials are pleased with the first day attendance at the Interior Provincial Exhibition in Armstrong.

Wednesday saw 17,051 people come through the gates.

“That was down about 1,200 from the year before, but that’s not a concern for us at all, “says General manager Yvonne Paulson. “The first day, you never know what you’re going to get, and you’re getting everything organized and set up, so it’s very good. We’re pleased.”

Paulson says a baby calf was born on the first day.

“That was pretty exciting, and the new calf’s name is Lucy. There’s also the baby goats. Oh my goodness. They are so darn cute.”

Canada’s 150th birthday will be celebrated at the fair today.

“It will kick off around noon and go until 4. The cake cutting will be at 2 o clock and that’s in the Canada pavilion,” adds Paulson.

The 118th IPE continues until Sunday at the fairgrounds in Armstrong.
