Open burning permit applications open Nov. 1

Open burning within the City of Vernon will resume Nov. 1.

The city will begin accepting applications that day for Category 2 and 3 open-burning permits within the municipal boundary.

The permits allow burning of large debris piles, windrows and grassy areas, as well as the use of air-curtain burners, burn barrels and burn cages.

Permit holders must follow city regulations, including setback requirements. Only local vegetation may be burned, and materials should be reduced through chipping, composting or recycling where possible.
