Fire damages unit in Kelowna commercial building

Oct 5, 2026 | 10:58 AM

Firefighters were quick to put out a structure fire at a high-occupancy building on Commerce Avenue Monday morning.

The Kelowna Fire Department was called to the 1600 block of Commerce Avenue shortly after 7 a.m. after an alarm was triggered.

The first arriving officer reported heavy smoke coming from the exterior of the second floor and upgraded the response to a structure fire.

Firefighters attacked the blaze from outside while a second crew established a water supply for an interior attack. The fire was quickly brought under control and damage was contained to the unit where it started.

Sprinklers caused extensive water damage to both the first and second floors.

All occupants were evacuated and accounted for after firefighters searched the building.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
