The KGH Foundation says its largest-ever fundraising campaign has raised more than $45.4 million for health care across the Southern Interior.

The foundation announced Thursday that its four-year Closer to Home Than You Think campaign raised $45,432,601, surpassing its original $40-million goal by more than $5 million.

“What our community has accomplished through this campaign goes far beyond exceeding an ambitious fundraising goal,” KGH Foundation CEO Allison Young said in a statement.

The money has supported new technology, programs, clinical training and innovation at Kelowna General Hospital, including 3T MRI technology, robot-assisted surgery, a gynecologic oncology surgical program and improvements to emergency care.

Foundation officials say the investments are also helping expand access to specialized care in the Interior and reduce the need for some patients to travel outside the region.

Nearly one-third of the original $40-million campaign target was dedicated to innovation, including research awards, the Jim Pattison Centre for Health Systems Learning + Innovation and a body donor program.
