Operator being sought for Cultural Centre

The Regional District of North Okanagan has started the process of finding groups to manage the new Greater Vernon Cultural Centre.

The RDNO opened the Expressions of Interests process to find non-profits, cultural organizations, social enterprises, venue operators or consortiums to apply as an operator or programming contributor for the new facility Friday.

“With construction of the Greater Vernon Cultural Centre advancing, we are beginning the important process of identifying an organization or team that can expand on the exceptional programming that the Vernon Public Art Gallery and Greater Vernon Museum and Archives will be providing in the building and bring the rest of this remarkable community space to life,” Bob Fleming, Chair of the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee, stated.

“We are looking for experienced and visionary partners who can help create a dynamic, welcoming, and sustainable cultural hub that reflects the diversity, creativity, and aspirations of our region.”

The operator would be responsible for key functions within the Cultural Centre (GVCC), including:

  • Day-to-day operations and visitor services
  • Cultural programming, events, performances, workshops, and community activities
  • Partnership development with cultural organizations, Indigenous communities, artists, educators, and community groups
  • Coordinated marketing, audience development, fundraising, sponsorships, and revenue generating activities to support long-term sustainability for the facility

Parties interested in operating the GVCC have until October 15 to submit questions to the RDNO, with the Expression of Interest application period closing October 30. Those processes can be accessed online here.

The GVCC remained under construction in downtown Vernon as of time of publication with the goal of having the facility built and open to the public in 2028. The GVCC will be home to the Vernon Public Art Gallery and the Greater Vernon Museum and Archives, and will also have flexible presentation and event spaces as well as indoor and outdoor gathering areas.
