OKIB flag to fly permanently in Coldstream

The Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB) flag will be flown in Coldstream to mark National Truth and Reconciliation Day and beyond.

The flag will be hoisted at Coldstream Cenotaph Park, and will then permanently fly alongside the Canadian, B.C. and District of Coldstream flags.

The municipality said the permanent display would recognize “the enduring presence of the Syilx people in their traditional ancestral territory since immemorial, their deep connection to the land, and the ongoing relationship between the Okanagan Indian Band and the District of Coldstream.”

The special flag raising ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. Sept. 29.
