Addressing Resident Concerns

Coldstream investigating options for some concerns around the new Vernon Hill parking area

Coldstream is investigating potential impacts of a parking area for the new Vernon Hill trail network.

The trail head will be located at the end of Cypress Drive, and a 30-stall parking area was being set up at the end of the road.

This work led to a series of concerns being raised by area residents, who brought forward a delegation with a list of requests for action to Coldstream Council in early August.

At the meeting Monday, August 24, Coldstream Council directed staff to investigate options for some of the concerns raised. Those involved installing a new fire hydrant, reducing speed limits, and having bylaw conduct regular parking compliance patrols.

Staff would report back with recommendations at a future meeting.

There were a series of other requests from residents, but they all fell under the purview of the Regional District of North Okanagan, which was leading this project. Coldstream declined to investigate those concerns but did agree to forward the requests to the RDNO and the partner North Okanagan Cycling Society. Those issues ranged from improving pedestrian and community safety to installation of a gate at the parking lot and to establishing a clear park-closure criteria.
