FortisBC adds faster EV chargers in Kelowna, Rock Creek

Electric vehicle drivers in the Okanagan and Boundary Country have more options for faster charging, with FortisBC adding three new high-powered stations in Kelowna and Rock Creek.

The new chargers are located at Rutland Centennial Park and the Okanagan Heritage Museum in Kelowna, along with the Rock Creek Visitor Centre. The Kelowna stations can deliver up to 180 kilowatts, while the Rock Creek charger has a capacity of 150 kilowatts.

The stations are designed to serve both passenger vehicles and medium-duty electric vehicles, including delivery trucks, large SUVs and panel vans. Each has two charging ports, allowing two vehicles to charge at the same time, and supports contactless payment and the North American charging standard.

FortisBC has also made accessibility upgrades at its charging sites, including improved lighting, accessible parking stalls and paving at most locations.

The company now operates 45 fast-charging stations at 22 sites across its Southern Interior electricity service area. The network connects 20 communities across more than 1,000 kilometres of highway.
