Counterfeit cash, firearms and drugs seized in West Kelowna bust

Police have broken up a Central Okanagan counterfeit money operation.

In July, West Kelowna RCMP’s Drug Section and Crime Reduction Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the 3100 block of Shannon Place.

During the raid police seized over $20,000 in counterfeit currency and materials believed to be used in manufacturing fake bills including security holograms. Officers also discovered and seized seven firearms, ammunition, and quantities of suspected cocaine, MDMA, and ketamine.

One man was arrested at the time though charges remained pending further investigation and approval by the Public Prosecution Service of Canada.

“This seizure removed a significant quantity of counterfeit currency, illicit drugs, and firearms from our community,” Corporal Shaun Achtymichuk of the West Kelowna RCMP Drug Section, said.

“Counterfeit currency undermines confidence in our financial system and can have serious impacts on local businesses and residents. This investigation highlights our commitment to disrupting organized criminal activity and enhancing public safety.”

Residents and businesses were encouraged to be vigilant when dealing with cash transactions, and to report any fraudulent bills to police.

“This investigation demonstrates how crimes often perceived as ‘white-collar’ offences can intersect with the criminal underworld of drug trafficking and the illegal possession of firearms,” Achtymichuk noted.

Anyone with information related to the investigation or operation were asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-2880, or to file an anonymous report with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
