New park coming to Rutland in 2027

A significant planned neighborhood park in Rutland should have shovels in the ground by next spring.

Aurora Park, just a block off Highway 33, has been designed after resident and business engagement.

It will include a small and large dog run area, open lawn space, accessible picnic seating, bicycle racks, shade trees and plantings, a playground, sloped play area, walking paths, a seating plaza and bench seating.

Safety was a central consideration, with improved lighting, clear sightlines, and open layout.

The design and layout of a new multi million dollar neighborhood park was unveiled Friday.

Construction will start next spring on an undeveloped site between Aurora Crescent and Froelich Road, behind Value Village and Rona.

“Aurora Park is the result of residents sharing what matters most to them,” Mayor Tom Dyas said in a media release. “This new neighbourhood park will provide a safe and welcoming place to enjoy the outdoors close to home. As Rutland continues to grow, Aurora Park will become part of the community’s story, a place that residents can enjoy and make their own for years to come.”

It’s hoped the new park can be completed later in 2027.
