B.C assessing impact of Bald Creek wildfire

It has been one week since the Bald Range wildfire broke out near Summerland, and Premier David Eby says the province is now turning its attention to the financial impacts of the fire.

Eby says the immediate request to the federal government was for accommodation, but hotel space has since opened up and the province has not needed military barracks.

He says the focus now is on making sure firefighters have the resources they need, while the province assesses the financial impact on communities, businesses and residents.

“Summerland’s water supply has certainly taken a significant hit,” Eby said, adding there are also infrastructure implications from a fire of this scale.
