Arrest made after bush set on fire in Salmon Arm

Aug 10, 2026 | 5:09 PM

An arrest has been made in connection to a suspicious fire lit in Salmon Arm that threatened a business.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday, August 8, police responded to a report of a bush on fire in the 300-block of Trans Canada Highway SW.

Mounties arrived on scene and found a bush fully engulfed in flames and threatening a business.

Responding officers and members of the public were able to contain the fire until firefighters arrived and doused the flames. Damages were limited to nearby bushes and trees and there were no injuries reported.

The initial investigation determined the fire was set on purpose and a suspect was identified, and that person was located and arrested without incident Sunday.

“Thanks to the quick actions of responding officers and community members, the fire was extinguished before it could spread to nearby buildings,”  S/Sgt. Simon Scott of the Salmon Arm RCMP, stated.

“The investigation remains ongoing and we continue to seek additional witnesses.”

Anyone with information about this incident was asked to contact the Salmon Arm RCMP at 250-832-6044.
