Parts of Mission Creek Regional Park to close for trail and habitat work

Aug 10, 2026 | 2:00 PM

Parts of Mission Creek Regional Park will be closed starting Monday as crews begin work on two infrastructure and habitat restoration projects.

The closures will allow crews to install rock riffles in Mission Creek and complete trail improvements connected to the future Gerstmar Bridge.

The riffles are shallow structures made from rocks that help oxygenate the creek and create better conditions for fish to spawn and rest. The work is intended to improve salmon habitat ahead of the fall kokanee spawning season and strengthen the creek’s natural flood protection.

The Gerstmar Bridge project will address a gap in the Mission Creek Greenway, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to remain on the off-road trail network between Ziprick and Gerstmar roads.

The affected areas include portions of the Mission Creek Greenway between the Dogwood Loop trail and Graham Road, the Ziprick Road parking lot, Cottonwoods Bridge and the Soopollalie trail between Cottonwoods Bridge and the future Gerstmar Bridge site.

Visitors are being asked to stay out of construction zones, follow closure signs and directions from workers, and use alternate routes while the work is underway.
