Arrest one year after fatal incident at cycle race

A man has been arrested a year after a fatal incident at the Okanagan Granfondo cycling event in Penticton in July 2025.

One cyclist died, and two others were seriously injured when they were struck by a motor vehicle during the event.

Following an extensive investigation by Penticton RCMP, Jonathan Crant was arrested Monday, July 20 and charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death and Bodily Harm.

Mounties are not providing any other details. 

“This has been a complex investigation requiring significant investigative efforts to collect, analyze and assess evidence,” Staff Sergeant Scott Hanry with the Penticton RCMP said in a media release. “Our community was profoundly impacted by this event. Our thoughts remain with all family members and those affected by this tragic incident.”
