A charity golf tournament raised thousands of dollars for local organizations.

The fifth annual Kal Rotary Charity Golf Tournament saw over 100 golfers tee off at the Vernon Golf and Country Club June 4, during which they raised $47,000 for organizations in the North Okanagan.

“From golfers to sponsors to prize donors, everyone stepped up,” Rob Bauml, co-chair of the Charity Golf Tournament, said.

“The energy on the course was incredible, and it all translated into meaningful support for organizations doing essential work in our community,” Jacqueline Rivard, the other co-chair, added.

Of the funds raised, $37,000 will be gifted to the Kalamalka Starfish Society to support its program that provides weekend meals to children in the North Okanagan facing food insecurity.

“We’re deeply grateful for Kalamalka Rotary’s continued commitment,” Kalamalka Starfish Society president Mary Jackson stated.

“This funding helps ensure we can keep food flowing to students who rely on us.”

KidSport Vernon will be receiving $5,000 from the money raised through the tournament, which will be used to help remove financial barriers so more children in Greater Vernon can participate in organized sports.

“These funds directly support kids who otherwise wouldn’t have access to the positive, life-changing benefits of sport,” said Doug Ross and Maria Doyle of KidSport Vernon.

The remaining $5,000 will go to Lumby Disc Golf to help that group grow the sport in the community.

The sixth edition of the charity golf tournament was being planned for June 3, 2027.
