Coldstream makes Pumphouse Beach permanent off-leash dog area

Jun 26, 2026 | 2:44 PM

A pilot project in the North Okanagan has led to a permanent change at the waterfront, with the District of Coldstream officially designating Pumphouse Beach as an off-leash dog beach.

The site will allow dogs to run, swim and play alongside their owners after the district determined the pilot program was successful.

During the trial period, waste receptacles and dog waste bag dispensers were installed at the beach. The district says those will remain in place going forward.

Staff will also continue working with partner agencies to monitor water quality, track site use and ensure access for water utility operations.

“Pumphouse Beach will continue to provide a designated waterfront space where residents and visitors can enjoy the beach with their dogs while balancing the needs of all users,” the municipality said in a statement.

“The District asks that patrons follow posted rules so the beach is a safe and enjoyable place for everyone.”

The new designation adds to other off-leash areas in the community, including Coldstream Valley Estates, Creekside Park, Lavington Park, Stenquist Park and Vi-Morphet Dog Park, all within District of Coldstream.
