Hwy 97 Collision

Kelowna RCMP cleared in February crash

Jun 3, 2026 | 1:39 PM

BC’s police watchdog has cleared RCMP in a case involving a significant crash in Kelowna.

At around 12:01 a.m. February 9, 2026, a Kelowna RCMP officer on patrol spotted a Ford F-150 pickup travelling on Highway 97 near Sexsmith Road.

The truck had an incorrect license plate and the officer attempted a traffic stop, but the truck ultimately fled police.

Shortly after, the F-150 collided with a Mercedes Benz near the intersection of Hwy 97 N and Commercial Drive.

The driver of the pickup fled the scene on foot but was later located and arrested.

A woman in the Mercedes was injured in the collision, and the Independent Investigations Office was tasked with looking into the case.

The IIO has since reviewed medical evidence and determined the woman’s injuries did not meet the threshold of serious harm, and the case had been closed.
