Annual cycling fundraiser for mental health cancelled

May 27, 2026 | 11:18 AM

The annual bike ride fundraiser supporting mental health services in the North Okanagan has been cancelled.

The Vernon branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA Vernon) said it would not be running its Ride Don’t Hide event on June 7.

“This decision was made after careful consideration of ongoing logistical challenges, including the continued closure of a key route along Aberdeen Road, which impacts the organization’s ability to deliver a safe and accessible event for all participants,” CMHA Vernon said in a release.

“Ride Don’t Hide has become a valued annual tradition in the North Okanagan, bringing together community members each June to raise awareness and funds for mental health. CMHA Vernon acknowledges the deep connection many participants, volunteers, and supporters have to this event and shares in the community’s disappointment.”

Ride Don’t Hide had already raised $5,252 as of time of publication from registered riders and teams who had fundraised for the event. The fundraiser would continue despite the ride not proceeding, with the money raised to be used to support counselling, wellness supports, and other mental health services for youth and young adults aged 12 to 24 in the North Okanagan. People can support the cause online here.
