RCMP impounded three vehicles and issued multiple tickets during a traffic enforcement operation Tuesday targeting speeding in high-risk areas, including one motorcycle clocked at 167 km/h in a 100 km/h zone and another travelling 128 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

A frontline officer ran the operation May 26 on Highway 97A and Westside Road, focusing on speeding and aggressive driving. Police said it resulted in three vehicle impoundments and multiple tickets.

On Highway 97A near Greenhow Road, officers recorded two excessive-speed incidents. An SUV was clocked at 151 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. The driver was ticketed and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. In a separate incident in the same area, a motorcycle was observed travelling 167 km/h. The rider was fined and the bike was impounded for one week.

On Westside Road near Six Mile Creek Road, a motorcycle was clocked at 128 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. Police said the rider was unlicensed and wanted on outstanding warrants. The individual was arrested and issued additional fines.

“Speeding and aggressive driving is a serious concern and we’re going to target and remove these drivers from the road,” Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said.

“With summer comes the temptation to hit the gas but we want drivers to resist that urge and obey the rules. Remember, your choices impact everyone’s safety so please drive responsibly.”
