BC urban mayors wants immediate action

The B.C. Urban Mayors’ Caucus is at the Legislature Wednesday to call on the provincial government to take what they label “immediate and meaningful action on the critical issues facing communities across British Columbia.”

The group of mayors warn that continued delays are placing increasing pressure on cities and residents alike.

Representing B.C.’s largest urban centres, the Caucus – which includes Kelowna Mayor Tom Dyas – said it is united in its request for stronger provincial leadership and partnership on key priorities.

Those include housing affordability, crime and public safety, infrastructure funding, mental health and addictions, and homelessness response.

“We are nearly two years into this government’s mandate, and urban mayors are really looking for the province to follow through on their commitments to local governments,” Marianne Alto, Mayor of Victoria and Co-Chair of the BC Urban Mayors’ Caucus, said in a statement. “We want to work collaboratively with the government and the Premier, and today’s meetings are an opportunity for us to share the concerns we have, while indicating our willingness to work as partners.”
