Mar 17, 2026 | 9:07 AM

ABBOTSFORD — Authorities in Abbotsford, B.C., have notified the provincial police watchdog after a person was killed when a vehicle fleeing from police crashed into a tree.

Abbotsford police say it happened late Monday on Maclure Road, when an officer spotted a speeding Dodge Ram pickup and tried to make a traffic stop.

Police say the driver sped off, then lost control and crashed into the tree moments later.

The driver was declared dead at the scene.

Investigators say a crash analysis team has begun looking into the case, while the Independent Investigations Office has been notified and will conduct its own investigation.

Police say traffic in the area of the crash scene has been disrupted as investigators gather evidence and seek out witnesses.
