Human Cause Investigated For Fire

RCMP believe a wildfire in Lake Country early Monday morning was human caused.

It broke out shortly after 1 am in the 12700 block of Carrs Landing Road where Lake Country fire   crews were called to battle the blaze.

“A nearby resident told police that he smelt smoke and exited his home to investigate. He spotted the fire, immediately called the fire department and grabbed tools to battle the blaze, while he awaited the arrival of emergency crews,” says Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey of Kelowna RCMP.

The fire department was able to establish fire guards to bring the blaze under control, before it spread into the dry forest or nearby homes.

“Fire investigators with both the fire department and the RCMP have assessed the scene, less than a hectare in size. Police believe that the fire quickly spread from its point of origin, which was in the ditch parallel to the east side of the roadway,” says O’Donaghey.

The constable says RCMP continue to work closely with investigators with the BC Wildfire Service on the cause.
