One person killed in crash on Vernon-Sicamous highway

Sicamous RCMP responded to a report of a crash on Highway 97A near the Hummingbird Resort around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Police determined a southbound Ford sedan lost control while navigating a curve and crossed the centre line, where it crashed into an oncoming semi truck and trailer.

The driver of the Ford was declared deceased at the scene by an off-duty physician who had stopped to offer assistance before emergency personnel arrived.

The victim was a 22-year-old woman from Salmon Arm. There were no other injuries reported as a result of the crash.

RCMP said road conditions were slippery at the time due to heavy snow falling and the pavement being covered with a thin layer of wet snow.
