Lumby Updates Residents On Flood Recovery

About 50 people turned out to a meeting in Lumby last night to hear from from various officials about what’s happening with the flood recovery.

Mayor Kevin Acton says they were a mix of residents impacted by the flooding, contractors and other just curious.

“It went really well. There was nobody that seemed to be incredibly upset with how things were working. They just needed to know what was happening.”

He says there were few complaints, they just wanted information.

“Really just sort of wanted to know what was going on and what’s going to happen and where we’re going and talk about information supply and the best way to get it.”

Acton says generally people were satisfied to know they’re not being forgotten.

“People were told that each of them have an individual file that was started and all the notes are in there, all the conversations that have been had with them are in there.”

He says there are some things the village can do right now.

“Get people some sheds, temporary structures for their stuff. Put up some fencing for people that have dogs.”

Acton added that the village will put up some privacy fencing and notices up where a temporary berm was built in some yards and is just feet from homes.

The village recently received 226 thousand dollars in grants from the federal government and 150 thousand dollars from the province.
