Canada Day Success In Vernon

Jul 4, 2017 | 11:23 AM

Organizers of Vernon’s Canada Day festivities are pretty happy with how things went.

President of the organizing committee, David Frost says Polson Park was busy with activities there.

“Everything from the daytime activities was smooth. I think the things we added this year were a real hit, like the ATV rides. Every time I checked there was a big line- up of people waiting to go on them.”

He says the park was full, definitely feeling busier than last year.

Frost says he hasn’t received any complaints, other than parking, which is always an issue.

He says they’ll try to have an even bigger event next year.

Frost says they fell short of fundraising to hold the event and will probably start planning earlier next year.

As for the fireworks, the wind was a bit of concern, but otherwise no problems.

“It was very busy down at the beach. It was good to see. We had a lot of participation and stuff from the public. That was excellent. A lot of the other viewing areas as well were quite crowded, up along Bench Road and that kind of thing.”

The clean up of debris from the fireworks in the lake went well.

“Having the yacht club helping out and Innerspace out there too cleaning up on the beach. They took pictures. We have a report from them and again I haven’t received a single complaint about any kind of debris or anything like that.”

Frost says the shuttle buses to and from Marshall Fields were full.

He says when the committee sits down to talk about next year, there may be some things they do differently, but there were no major issues.
