Over $100K going to support local conservation projects

Several local conservation projects are getting a leg up with some financial aid.
The Regional District of North Okanagan has agreed to provide a combined $103,000 to support six projects in the area through the North Okanagan Conservation Fund grant program.
The recipients and their projects are as follows:
- North Okanagan Naturalists Club – $5,000 to establish a Motus Wildlife Tracking System station at the Allan Brooks Nature Centre to be used to monitor the movements of radio-tagged wildlife
- Armstrong Wetlands Association – $29,000 for a multi-year project to restore and enhance the community’s last remaining low-elevation wetlands at Meighan Creek, and to create an outdoor learning space int he area featuring a metal boardwalk, viewing platform and educational signage
- Okanagan Collaborative Conservation Program – $20,000 for a project aimed at maintaining and safeguarding the ecological corridors through the region
- Invasive Species Council of B.C. – $11,500 for a project aimed at reducing the impacts of invasive species on the North Okanagan’s freshwater, riparian and upland ecosystems
- Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship Society – $22,500 for its Growing Greener project that looks to address the loss of riparian and wetland habitats by engaging with residents, landowners and community partners in hands-on conservation, restoration and long-term stewardship
- North Okanagan Naturalists Club – $15,000 for a project focused on improving nesting and basing habitat for the Western Painted Turtle
