Air Conditioners for Seniors

Organization asking for public aid to protect seniors from extreme heat

Jul 24, 2026 | 12:57 PM

A local organization has asked for aide in making sure seniors stay cool and safe during the summer.

Some seniors in B.C. are eligible for provincial assistance accessing a portable air conditioner.

However, to fill the gaps and ensure seniors who do not qualify for the provincial program, NexusBC runs its own operation to deliver appropriate, energy-efficient devices and ensure local seniors are protected from heat-related illness during extreme heat events.

“We know there are seniors in our community who are spending dangerous summer days in homes that become unbearably hot,” Pam Myers, Executive Director of NexusBC Community Resource Centre, stated.

“A donation of $300 allows us to purchase a portable air conditioner that can cool the air for a senior. It’s a simple gift that can make the difference between staying safe at home and facing a heat-related medical emergency.”

People can support the program by donating online here.
